Casino Connection

It has been really hard for me to wrap my brain around the Administration supporting expanded gambling that will increase domestic abuse, addiction, child neglect, bankruptcy, drinking and driving along with traffic and environmental issues. How can the people I worked so hard to elect support this? Why?

I have thought about this many times and rationalized; they (mistakenly) believe that casinos will be a net postive economic gain; they (mistakenly or naively) believe that they will control corruption; or, the allure of playing with the Big Dogs (casino owners/lobbyists) is just too tempting.

Then, on Christmas Eve, I came upon an answer in an article
Patrick's Casino Connection .

I feel truly betrayed by working to elect Deval. I now deeply regret it.

I don't think you should feel betrayed...Deval is just trying to make good on campain promises that cost money the State does not have to spend...his problem is he sees casinos as a means to his end - he is looking down the wrong path and cannot see that casinos in Massachusetts will by all means be an end...an end of many things...families, lives, small businesses, decent property vaulues, pristine ecosystems and most importantly, our quality of life.

Those that are pro-casino state that individuals need to take personal responsibility for their actions. "If people choose to gamble...it is their right."
Fine I say, then buy a scratch ticket or a lottery ticket...that WILL NOT affect me. However, I do not need to step one foot into this potential casino and I WILL BE affected DAILY.

This is not just a gambling issue regarding personal responsibilty. This is a community and regional issue. This casino will impact ALL of us REGARDLESS if we gamble. It's common sense.

...and those on the pro-side (Gov. Patrick as well) know it...they're just too blinded by greed to care.
